Nothing beats the view from the top of a rock to maintain his territory against rival males. Under the fierce sun, the dragon quickly scans his territorial domain before dashing for the cool shade.
Most of the landscape of Millstream Chichester National Park is rolling spinifex hills such as the one pictured in this photograph. The area was a focal point for the Yindjibarndi aboriginal people and an active pastoral station for more than 100 years.
The Pilbara region is rich in minerals, in particular iron ore. The ore travels from the mines centred around Tom Price to the port of Dampier aboard gigantic trains. Each of these trains is made of 226 cars, reaches about 2.4 km in length and weighs 23,500 tons.
The arid plains of the northern park of the park are cut by deep and narrow gorges providing spectacular display of rock layers and formations.
Karijini National Park is the second largest park in Western Australia. The park is best known for its sheer-sided gorges that cut through the landscape, providing a fresh retreat from the sun-drenched plains above.

Weano Gorge is best visited in the early hours of the day or before dusk when the fast changing light paints the canyon walls.

If you are after a dusty experience, just hop on a 4x4 and drive through the Australian outback. If you are lucky, you will get the flies for free.
Hamersley Gorge is a bit isolated on the map, some 80 km NE of the retreat campground. This makes it a less visited spot despite the large fresh water pools calling for a swim.

Past this point, the trail changes to Class 6 and one must be with a certified guide to continue the exploration of the canyon.
The whale shark is the biggest fish in the world. A fully grown male can reach 18 meters in length, this one is 9 meter long. Every year, between March and June, the mass spawning of corals attract these sea giants in search for food.
